A Book about Dying: Preparing for Eternal Life
Author: Kirven, Robert H. Foreword By: Raphael, Simcha Paull Length: 165 pages Description: "Robert Kirven on this side of life is a sure guide to what we can expect on the other side. Coming from profound caregiving, his experience is alive in his words. -Rabbi Zalman Schachter, Naropa Institute A Book about Dying details the Swedenborgian view of the afterlife: a heaven open to all who seek it and an eternal existence that includes continuation of personal identity, reunion with loved ones, and dwelling in community with spiritual peers. Kirven explains that the way we live now affects the way we die and the quality of our life after death. He suggests practical ways to alter our thoughts and actions to help prepare for what follows the transition we call dying. In addition, Kirven offers practical advice on the details of dying: our expectations and fears, caregiving, hospice, NDEs, funerals, grieving, and dealing with family and friends. Drawing on personal experience with his wife Marian's terminal illness, Kirven concludes that "for patient and survivor alike, living really does continue after dying." Robert H. Kirven is past president and professor emeritus of the Swedenborg School of Religion. He holds degrees from the University of Chicago, Andover Newton Theological School, and Brandeis University, where he earned a Ph.D. in the history of ideas. He is the author of Angels in Action: What Swedenborg Saw and Heard and the co-author, with George F. Dole, of A Scientist Explores Spirit. Quantity START A NEW SEARCH
